Leroy Davis enrolled in the Dannon Project reentry program a year ago and has so much he has accomplished. He was one of the first participants to enroll in the DOLETA/PRI program last year after being incarcerated for 18 years. When he enrolled in the program he told his case manager, “ I need everything. I’ll work if I can get a job, but I need some help”. After Leroy completed the required training classes and obtained his medical and mental health assessment appointments, he was placed in The Dannon Project ‘s eight-week internal employment training program (ETP). He desired to obtain his CDL certification in order to become an over the road truck driver. While working in the ETP, The Dannon Project assisted him in obtaining his drivers license and CDL certification. After he completed the transitional job readiness-training program, Leroy was placed in full time employment driving a delivery truck for a small business.

The Dannon Project also assisted Leroy with housing in a shared-living house before he moved into his own apartment last year. He experienced a set back after his employment as a delivery truck driver ended when his employer faced an economic decline. Leroy was able to maintain his apartment through assistance from HUD’s Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing (HPRP) program to stabilize his housing until he obtained with other employment.

Leroy is now working in full time employment in the construction industry. His housing is stable. He has a savings and checking account. Last month, after 20 years, he purchased his first car. Leroy has not given up on his dream of driving trucks. He has an interview with a trucking company next week.

He is engaged and hopes to be married next year. Indeed, since his release and enrollment in The Dannon Project’s reentry program, Leroy is one of the many participants that have made successful transitions back into the community!
