SYEP — Employer Application

The Dannon Project Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides over 65 employers with entry-level employees. Youth work up to 30 hours per week for eight weeks with the goal of building on their individual strengths and incorporating youth development principles. These principles include engaging the talents and interests of youth, developing their skills and competencies, and providing positive adult role models. SYEP participants are typically Jefferson County residents between the ages of 16 and 21 and are enthusiastic about not just earning some money this summer but building their resumes with good work experience. As an SYEP worksite, you agree to:

  • Provide productive and meaningful work assignments
  • Provide training and supervision
  • Communicate regularly with TDP to ensure that accurate compensation for hours worked
  • Evaluate your participants and provide adequate feedback and mentoring

A site supervisor is an individual who works within your organization and is tasked with directly overseeing the youth assigned to your worksite(s). The Youth Programs Office recommends a minimum supervisor to youth ratio of 1:10 for Work Experience programs

Payroll coordinators are regular employees of your business or organization who are responsible for ensuring that a SYEP participants’ time is entered, approved and submitted to the SYEP Program in a timely manner. Payroll Coordinators should additionally be available to assist in resolution of participant payroll issues as they arise. Please note that a supervisor may also serve as a Payroll Coordinator.
